Attic insulation, how much it saves and how fast it pays off

Why insulating the attic ceiling is one of the fastest-paying investments in an apartment building.

Why the attic matters most. Warm air rises. An uninsulated attic ceiling is the largest open surface in the building, and a significant share of heat escapes through it.

What it delivers in practice. Properly installed attic ceiling insulation, combined with proper ventilation, can cut heating energy use by 20 to 25%.

How fast it pays off. Usually within one to two heating seasons. It’s one of the few jobs in a building that pays for itself this quickly.

Why so fast. Because the work is relatively simple. No scaffolding to put up, no need to touch the facade, no need to disturb the apartments.

What needs to happen alongside it. The attic ventilation needs to work properly too. Insulation without ventilation causes condensation, and then a small problem turns into a bigger one.

Where to start. With an inspection. It often turns out that some insulation is already there, but it has settled or become uneven.
